Intense rainfall caused severe flooding in the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu on Monday, which is believed to be the heaviest in six years.
The rainfall started over the weekend and is expected to continue until Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department.
Local residents were seen trying to continue day to day life despite flooded roads and damage to property.
The Chennai local government issued a flood warning to residents as they were forced to open several reservoirs on Sunday to release accumulated rainfall from the downpour.
