Indonesia: At least 3 dead after 4.8 magnitude earthquake hits Bali

At least three people have died and many more were injured, after a 4.8 magnitude earthquake rocked Bali on Saturday morning.

Ban village in Bali’s Kubu District appeared to have been reduced to rubble, with many structures having collapsed as a result of the quake.

Local resident Nyoman Puja stated that his daughter had died whilst he was trying to save her, having been hit by wood and rocks inside his house.

Two people have been reported dead in nearby Bangli, where landslides blocked evacuation routes.
Rescue efforts are still ongoing, with the Bali Province Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) warning locals to prepare for further aftershocks.

SOT, Nyoman Puja, Ban village resident (Indonesian): “Here at around 5 am there was an explosion that shocked me and woke me up. So I took my daughter, she was crying, and I jumped to the left side, but my daughter died.
Journalist (Indonesian): “What did she die from?”
Nyoman Puja (Indonesian): “She died from the wood and stones hitting her.”
