Live music events have been permitted in Iran after two years of them being restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Pop star Alireza Talischi had one of his first shows in Tehran on Saturday.
The live events industry is one of the last to reopen in Iran. Protocols were taken to ensure a safe event for all, such as mandatory vaccination and running the event at half capacity.
Due to the limited availability of tickets, the prices soared. Talischi explained that it’s understandable that the prices got higher, stressing “But as these people, I’m not happy that prices have gone up so much. But, well, on the other hand, the price of everything in our country has gone up, not just the ticket price.”
Talischi has a spate of shows lined up for the remainder of 2022.
SOUNDBITES:
SOT, Alireza Talischi, Iranian Pop Singer (Farsi): “My concert tickets were sold out in seven hours. And this was a record for me. And I’m proud to have such fans. This shows that people miss the concerts. And I hope that this will continue, that this transfer of love and affection will continue.”
SOT, Alireza Talischi, Iranian Pop Singer (Farsi): “I’m only a singer. But there are many of those whose only source of income is this. In addition, we must consider the laws that are approved by the respectable Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, which are also decisive. And finally, the cost of the concert is important for the producer to have a great show that night. A series of things inevitably occur. But like these people, I’m not happy that prices have risen so much. But, well, on the other hand, the price of everything in our country has gone up, not just the ticket price.
SOT, Alireza Talischi, Iranian Pop Singer (Farsi): “We are upset that the hall is not like the time before the coronavirus, we do not have the screams that resonated in the hall. Of course, the friends who are kind and attending are certainly in good spirits and happy that these concerts have reopened.”
SOT, Mahdi Esfandiar, Concert Producer (Farsi): “People are receiving the concert very well, considering that the concerts had not been held in Tehran and most other cities in Iran for two years. According to a series of protocols defined, ticket sales began. Since December 22, thank God, it was received very well. Most concerts are extended, even our own concert is extended.”
SOT, Mahdi Esfandiar, Concert Producer (Farsi): “Due to the high vaccination rate in the country, the number of coronavirus cases is fortunately not high and it has remained low. And by social distancing and following the protocols and wearing a mask, there has been no problem so far and the coronavirus cases are decreasing. And well, it’s very gratifying for us to hope that the concerts continue and that we can continue to hold concerts to cheer people up and make things better.”
