Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett urged the public to get their second booster jab, and fourth vaccine, against COVID-19, from Jerusalem on Sunday. Speaking at a press conference, Bennett said that he backs the recommendation of the country’s top health official, Nachman Ash, for adults over 60 and medical workers to renew their protection, as the country battles a wave of the Omicron variant. “We have seen countries, like the Netherlands or Germany, that because they did not have the time, they had to go into full or partial closure, and we have seen other countries like France, Britain, and the US, countries like New York and Texas, which are currently facing a record child hospitalisationn,” added Bennett. The prime minister also reiterated that Israel has prepared thoroughly for Omicron, stating the country has stocked up on Pfizer’s Plaxovid, a Covid19 drug that is 90 percent effective in preventing hospitalisations, severe illness and death among people with preexisting conditions like Diabetes and obesity, according to clinical trials. Israel is facing more than 6,100 daily new COVID-19 infections, with a total of 1.39 million cases and 8,244 related deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Prof Ash’s decision was made according to the best professional considerations, and after consulting with various experts.”
