Israel introduced new border and quarantine restrictions for travelers due to the Omicron COVID-19 variant, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced on Sunday.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Bennett said foreign nationals will be barred from entering the country, while Israelis have to undergo mandatory quarantine upon their return from foreign countries.

“Now we need to tighten up our borders in order to keep Israel open internally. I understand that we need to change vacation destinations and go into isolation upon return. This happens in my family as well. Restrictions on the country’s borders is not an easy step, but it’s a temporary and necessary step,” he said.
