Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid has declared that ‘Israel will not let Iran become a nuclear threshold state,’ during a statement given at the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee, Jerusalem, on Monday.

Lapid spoke regarding the ongoing talks aimed at reviving a nuclear deal with Iran, and stated that the ‘primary challenge’ for Israel is stopping the Iranian nuclear programme.

“We have told everyone clearly: Israel will not let Iran become a nuclear threshold state. Certainly we prefer to act through international cooperation, but if necessary we will defend ourselves, by ourselves,” the Foreign Minister continued.

Talks have been in progress to revive the Iran nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) which the Donald Trump administration left in 2018.
