Italian President Mattarella welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron at Palazzo Chigi in Rome on Thursday night.

Macron is visiting Rome to sign the French-Italian Enhanced Cooperation Treaty at the Italian Presidential Palace, the Quirinale, in Rome on Friday, following a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

The so-called ‘Quirinal Treaty’, along the lines of the Elysee Treaty that regulates Franco-German cooperation, aims to enhance bilateral coordination between France and Italy over European and foreign policies as well as for security and defence, for migration and economic policies, but also the sectors of education, research, culture, and cross-border cooperation.
