Italy: Supporters rally for Puigdemont as he appears at extradition hearing

Dozens of demonstrators gathered outside the Court of Appeal of Sassari on Monday to support the former Catalan pro-independence leader Carles Puigdemont, who attended a hearing on his extradition to Spain.
Supporters were seen chanting ‘Freedom’ and waving Catalan and Sardinian flags as Puigdemont proceeded to the court.
Puigdemont, who’s serving as a member of the European Parliament in Brussels, was detained in Sardinia on September 23 as per Spain’s request for his involvement in the failed independence bid.
