Italy: Woods left charred after wildfire forces evacuation in Pescara

Five people were reportedly left wounded while around 800 local residents and holidaymakers were evacuated after a wildfire destroyed a pine wood near a beach in Pescara on Sunday.

Drone footage captured the devastation, with smoke still rising from the burnt land near the Ortona cemetery, on Monday.

Damage to a beach near the Pineta Dannunziana nature reserve in Pescara can also be seen.

The fire broke out in the 53-hectare (131-acre) nature reserve on Sunday.

Wildfires have torn through Italy, Turkey, Greece, and Spain, in recent days amid soaring temperatures brought by a historic heatwave.
