Japan: Protesters at train station in Saitama urge organisers to cancel Olympics

Anti-Olympic protesters gathered outside a train station in Saitama on Sunday, to demand the cancellation of the Games, amid fears of the virus spreading further.

One protester said he had joined in the demonstration because “We are afraid, we hear (about) the risk of our life.” Several protesters held signs suggesting lives would be saved if the tournament were to be cancelled.

The Games are scheduled to run from 23 July to 8 August 2021 after being postponed last year due to the COVID pandemic.
