The jury in the trial of former Brooklyn Centre police officer Kimberly Potter found her guilty in the killing of Black man Daunte Wright at Minneapolis Court, on Thursday, December 23.

People have gathered outside the court holding pictures of Wright and cheering the verdict.

Daunte Wright was a 20-year-old Black man that was fatally shot by Potter on April 14, 2021, during a traffic stop. After a brief struggle with officers, Wright was shot at close range. Following the incident, Wright drove off a short distance, but collided with another vehicle and hit a concrete barrier. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police stated that Potter meant to use her taser but accidentally grabbed her gun instead.
