Ruptly is live with a stakeout ahead of the UN Security Council’s emergency closed-door meeting on the situation in Sudan on Tuesday, October 26, in New York City.

On Monday, Sudan’s military seized power from a transitional government and declared a state of emergency. The country’s Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok was arrested and taken to an undisclosed location for refusing to issue a statement in support of the takeover. Protests have erupted in several cities, and three people have been killed, and more than 80 have been injured during clashes with the armed forces.

Military and political leaders have been in-fighting ever since previous leader Omar al-Bashir was overthrown two years ago.
