Ruptly is live from Washington DC on Saturday, August 28, as multiple protests are taking place in the city calling for expanded voting rights.
Demonstrations are held on the anniversaries of the historic March on Washington when Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech and of President Lyndon B. Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act into law two years later.
Several groups are staging different protests. Civil rights activists are gathering under the slogan “March On for Voting Rights” in McPherson Square calling for Congress to protect and expand voting rights following the introduction of bills that are claimed to restrict voting access in several states.

Another, organised by voting rights NGOs and Black Voters Matters will take place under the slogan “Make Good Trouble Rally” at the Lincoln Memorial in DC to demand “massive, moral revolution.
