There was increased security in the city of Yangon near the embassy on Friday, as Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen met with Myanmar’s military leader, Min Aung Hlaing.

The Cambodian PM’s visit was the first official visit by a head of state since the military took control from Aung San Suu Kyi’s government in 2021.

There were protests in parts of the country as people fear the visit gives more legitimacy to the military leader’s control of the nation.

Hun Set has said the visit intended to push Myanmar to form a peace plan sponsored by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
