After a month of reported leaking oil and gas spills along the coast of Nembe, San-San village residents shared the hardships of living in polluted waters, as footage filmed from Sunday, December 5, to Tuesday, December 7 shows.

“We don’t have many things left now. Our fishing tools are now spoilt. There’s no way we can continue with our fishing again because the oil spill has affected our river,” shared James Gabriel, a resident of San-San village.

The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) has dismissed claims by various parties on the volume and cause of the ongoing leak as ‘conjecture.’
