Southern California’s opulent luxury mansions are under threat as a fast-moving wildfire ravages some of the world’s most expensive real estate.

Fuelled by a decades-long drought, the tall flames were fanned by winds coming in from the sea, damaging dozens of multi-million dollar homes.

The fire started in Laguna Nigel, and though at first it appeared small but moved quickly across dry canyons and palm trees until it became a gargantuan blaze.

Despite the path of destruction left by the fire, no civilian injuries were reported after a large-scale evacuation was carried out.
