Winds of 150km per hour hit Grande Anse on Wednesday, as the Cyclone Batsirai hit the French island of Reunion.
The island was on red alert after at least eight people got injured and thousands of homes were left without power.
Strong winds and heavy rainfall also wreaked havoc in nearby Mauritius as the cyclone moves through the Indian Ocean.
