The morgue at the Bucharest University Hospital dealt with being heavily overwhelmed on Wednesday following a surge of COVID-19 deaths in the Romanian capital.

Medical staff in protective gear could be seen pulling coffins into vans outside the hospital’s morgue.

Over 23,000 people have been infected with COVID-19 in Romania over the past week and 1,173 died from the disease during the same period, currently ranking Romania as the fourth EU state with most deaths per capita.
