Relatives of miners gathered outside Kemerovo region’s Listvyazhnaya coal mine on Thursday to wait for updates from officials after a deadly accident in the mine.

According to Kemerovo Governor Sergei Tsivilev, at least 11 miners are dead, 43 injured, and 36 still missing following the accident.

According to the local investigative committee, “a number of workers” suffered from smoke poisoning. The preliminary data suggests the accident was caused by the coal dust igniting in a ventilation shaft.
