NATO’s actions will lead to the disintegration of the military alliance, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said at his speech to the State Duma, in Moscow on Thursday.

“We see that NATO is infiltrating the geographic areas of various countries under various pretexts and cover. They threaten independent states as well,” Raisi said.

“The spread of the Western model and the opposition to independent democracies, the resistance to the self-identification of the nation, [resistance to the] the peoples’ culture and traditions is on the agenda of NATO. This is, of course, a deception. We see this deception in their behaviour, and it will eventually lead to their disintegration,” the Iranian leader added.

Raisi claimed that in order to maintain the global status quo, the USA was trying to “weaken independent states from within.”

“Currently, we see that the strategy of domination has failed, and the United States is in its weakest position. The power of independent states is being further developed,” he said.

Raisi arrived in Moscow at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The presidents met on Wednesday for the first time since Raisi assumed office in August 2021.
