Russian President Vladimir Putin urged Russians on New Year’s holidays to comply with the recommendations for combating coronavirus. The head of state announced this when speaking at the plenary session of the XXX anniversary congress of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) on Friday in Moscow.
“The New Year’s holiday always evokes some kind of positive fairy-tale expectations for the future. And this is good, and, of course, we must celebrate. But you need to listen to all the recommendations of specialists and follow them. Here you know how: after the first toast, everyone already forgets about any precautions. This is not the case today. You need to carefully look at these recommendations and do everything in order to comply with them,” noted the president.
In his opening remarks, Putin also added that the current version of the bill on QR codes in public places needs to be improved.
“The law must be clear, clear and understandable. I will add that before any changes are adopted, government colleagues must ensure that the certification system is fully technological. It must work reliably and precisely to protect the health of citizens, and not create unnecessary difficulties for them,” Putin emphasised.
The President noted that the situation in the fight against coronavirus is still tense, not only in Russia, but all over the world.
“And look what is happening in relatively prosperous countries, I mean the spread of the so-called new omicron strain. The consequences are not yet clear. Some researchers say that this is a milder form, while others talk about the possible serious consequences after people get sick with it,” added Putin.
“Our Sputnik V vaccine, as it is seen today, within a week experts will give a final assessment, works well, perhaps even more effective in combating omicron than other vaccines used in the world,” the president said.
Putin added that for this reason, Russia may “share” already available drugs for booster vaccinations with European countries. “If, of course, they have such a need and desire,” the head of state concluded.
