Dozens of animal rights activists gathered on Saturday at Puerta del Sol in Madrid, demanding an end to animal abuse in Spanish farms and slaughterhouses.

Demonstrators were seen carrying photos of injured animals during the protest, which took place on the International Day for Animal Rights.

“Millions of animals cannot even endure the conditions in which they are kept. They die on the farms and their bodies, exhausted and worn, are thrown into the containers,” stated Javier Moreno, director of Animal Equality.

The activists demanded a package of seven measures from the central government with the aim of eliminating ‘avoidable suffering’ of animals, including banning animal slaughter without stunning, limiting house slaughters, and installing cameras in slaughterhouses.
