A group of Femen activists were removed by police officers for trying to climb the Madrid Assembly building, central Madrid, on Thursday.

The activists protested as the assembly voted on the Autonomous Equality Law, put forward by right-wing political party Vox. The proposal includes a repeal of the Gender Identity and Expression Law and the Comprehensive Protection against LGTBIphobia, both approved in 2016.

Demonstrators could be seen holding rainbow banners, with several climbing the gate outside the building, before being removed by police.

Femen is a feminist activist group that aims to protect women’s rights, known for their topless protests. A few weeks ago, the group rallied in Madrid’s Oriente square to protest against a memorial for former dictator Francisco Franco.
