Hundreds of demonstrators attended an Antifa march in Madrid on Saturday.

Demonstrators carried banners and flags and chanted Antifa slogans led by a huge ‘Madrid Antifa’ banner.

“In the last years we’ve seen how fascist and far-right organisations tried to normalise the intolerant speech in the public space, recently, with the health, social and economic crisis, worsened by COVID-19, trying to instrumentalise the neighbourhoods of Madrid offering the fascist speech as a reactionary solution to the consequences of capitalism,” said one demonstrator.

Another demonstration was planned for Sunday but was postponed due to bad weather conditions.

SOT, Demonstrator (Spanish): “Today, like yesterday, we take over and organise ourselves to fight against fascism. In the last years we’ve seen how fascist and far-right organisations tried to normalise the intolerant speech in the public space, recently, with the health, social and economic crisis, worsened by COVID-19, trying to instrumentalise the neighbourhoods of Madrid offering the fascist speech as a reactionary solution to the consequences of capitalism.”

SOT, Demonstrator (Spanish): “We, the antifascist organisations, are building the roots and tools to fight against their racist, misogynistic and homophobic speech. That’s why we’re here, to show, once again that, even though they never left, we didn’t either. Madrid will be the tomb of fascism!”
