State of Palestine: Gazans celebrate escape of six Palestinian prisoners from Israel's Gilboa prison

The Prisoners’ Committee of the National and Islamic Forces organised an event in front of the headquarters of the Red Cross in Gaza City on Monday, to celebrate the escape of six Palestinian prisoners from the high-security Gilboa prison.

“These six heroes today defined the battlefield with the Zionist enemy from the beginning of their digging of the tunnel of freedom to the end of the clash with the Zionist enemy towards victory over it or martyrdom. The battle continues with the Zionist enemy inside and outside prisons,” said Ahmed al-Mudallal, a leader in the Islamic Jihad Movement.

According to local reports, the six inmates were located in the same cell in Gilboa prison near the town of Beit HaShita, northern Israel, and escaped by digging up a tunnel.

Following the escape, a large number of police officers and security guards were called in to assist and are currently searching for the escapees using drones and helicopters.

Five of the six inmates are believed to be a part of the Islamic Jihad movement, with the other said to belong to an armed group associated with the Fatah party.

SOT, Iyad Abu Funun, freed prisoner (Arabic): “This miracle operation carried out by these heroes is a message to all the Palestinian people and to all the world, the will of the Palestinian is not broken through the cells by the simplest means, although the procedures surrounding them are very complicated, security measures are very large, we were inside Prisons, and we are fully aware of the meaning of the prisoner’s presence inside Gilboa, Nafha, or Ashkelon prison. We know the measures taken by the prison administration, yet the heroes were able to break this will and come out in a great victory on this blessed day.”
