Clashes continued to erupt between security forces and thousands of anti-coup protesters in the streets of Khartoum on Sunday as the Sudanese defied the protest ban.
Marchers denouncing the October military coup were met by security forces with tear gas, stun grenades and water cannons, trying to disperse the crowd. Activists hurled smoke canisters back towards the security forces.
Protesters call for an entirely civilian government, which was negotiated back in 2019 by former ousted President Omar al-Bashir.
According to an independent group of medics, since security forces began cracking down on protesters in October, at least 79 people have been killed with about 2,000 wounded.
