Syria: FM Mekdad discusses mutual relations with Iraq's FM Senior Undersecretary al-Khairallah

Syrian Foreign Affairs Minister Faisal Mekdad met with Iraq’s Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nizar al-Khairallah to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries, in Damascus on Thursday.

During the meeting, Mekdad reviewed the common challenges facing the two countries, foremost of which is terrorism, stressing the need for close cooperation between both sides to end its danger.

The minister also stressed Syria’s keenness to develop bilateral relations with Iraq in all aspects.

For his part, al-Khairallah expressed optimism for greater openness in the coming period in the region, stressing at the same time the importance of developing relations between the two countries, especially in the economic field.

On Wednesday, al-Khairallah discussed with Syrian Interior Minister Mohammad Khaled al-Rahmoun the efforts to combat terrorism, as well as Iraq’s efforts for Syria to rejoin the Arab League.
