Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral procession of the 12 killed SDF soldiers in Qamishli on Wednesday.
The caskets contained the pictures of the deceased soldiers while mourners chanted, gave speeches, and expressed their condolences to the families of the soldiers. “We sacrificed the most valuable of what we have, my son and his colleagues,” said Tamer Khalaf, father of one of the deceased.
The 12 SDF soldiers were killed during tense clashes between the SDF forces and alleged ISIS militants, who attacked the Ghwayran prison complex in the area of Hasakah. According to official reports, at least 235 people on both sides lost their lives in the clashes. There have been several funerals in different Syrian cities over the last few days.

Today in Syria, Qamishli, Rojava, we are fighting a huge battle on behalf of the world, all for the stability, security and peace in the region. We are fighting against the worst power in the world who are the ISIS fighters, which are supported by the most powerful nations like Turkey and others. The Kurds, Assyrians and Arabs have sacrificed what is most valuable to them.”
