Turkey: Wildfire rages on into the night in Marmaris

Flames continued to engulf trees in Marmaris on Monday evening, as the wildfire raged on into the night.

Areas of forest could be seen ablaze, with plumes of illuminated smoke turning the skies pink and orange.

The death toll from the Turkey fires climbed to eight on Sunday after the bodies of a Turkish-German couple were found in their burned home in Manavgat, Antalya.

A ban from entering forests is currently in place in many of Turkey’s provinces to help prevent further incidents.

Several regions have been deemed ‘disaster areas’ by the authorities. The blaze is yet another in a series of forest fires affecting the Mediterranean coast. Areas in Italy, Lebanon, Syria, Greece, and Cyprus were also hit by forest fires this summer.
