Visitors flocked to Dubai Expo 2020’s newly-opened Japan Pavilion, which featured a 3D art-installation inspired by the cultures of the two nations, as seen on Tuesday.
Images were projected onto an impressive 3D lattice, including nature scenes, Japanese characters, and a figure playing Japan’s traditional taiko drum.
Aiko Yabunaka, Secretary General of the Japan Pavilion, explained that each guest would be given a ‘bespoke smartphone’ and earphones to guide them around the exhibition.
“What’s special about this bespoke smartphone is, we take the log of your actions, where you went throughout the pavilion, and it will guide you personally and give you guidance, and at the very climax scene each and every visitor will be gifted with an avatar created according to their interests,” explained Yabunaka.
According to Japanese Ambassador Akajima Akihiko, the theme of this year’s Japan Pavilion, ‘Where ideas meet’, aligns with the ‘future vision’ of the UAE.
The exhibition will remain open to visitors until March 31, 2022.
SOT, Aiko Yabunaka, Secretary General of Japan Pavilion: “Japan Pavilion theme is ‘Where ideas meet.’ With our innovation and technology, cultivated with the long history of interaction with nature and interaction with foreign countries, we have a unique experience that we would like to offer to the visitors. How, is, the bespoke smartphone and earsets that will be handed to each of the visitors. What’s special about this bespoke smartphone is, we take the log of your actions, where you went throughout the pavilion, and it will guide you personally and give you guidance, and at the very climax scene each and every visitor will be gifted with an avatar created according to their interests, and it will be shown in the last scene altogether.”
SOT, Aiko Yabunaka, Secretary General of Japan Pavilion: “We unite together after this COVID-19. It was very hard for us to gather physically. We once again want to gather together, this is why we are here. To collect your ideas and put (them) into ours, we want to connect (them) to Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, which we are hosting. We’re not hosting this expo alone, we are hosting it with your ideas, because that is the way we can make a better future.”
SOT, Lisa, Visitor (Russian): “We are here from the early morning. There are pavilions that you want to visit over and over again. The Japanese one, for example. A very beautiful one and an unusual video presentation, the cooling system inside is great too. Most importantly, they highlight problems, especially those of the whole world, pollution, deforestation, these are the issues that have to be addressed.”
