UK: Volunteers collect donations for Ukrainian refugees

Dozens of volunteers gathered in London this Monday in order to collect donations for displaced people across Ukraine.
“We’re at the White Eagle Polish club on Balham High Road, and the White Eagle Polish club has organised collections for Poland to help Ukrainian refugees fleeing their country and I’ve been here since 9 o’clock this morning helping to organise people and to get donations sorted” said one volunteer who lived locally.
People from around the world have responded in solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) reported that more than half a million people have fled Ukraine, following shelling from Russian forces.

SOT, Volunteer: “We’re at the White Eagle Polish club on Balham High Road, and the White Eagle Polish club has organised collections for Poland to help Ukrainian refugees fleeing their country and I’ve been here since 9 o’clock this morning helping to organise people and to get donations sorted and it’s been very hectic, chaotic but it’s worth it. If it was me and my child I would want people to help me.”

SOT, Volunteer: “We got a message locally that they needed volunteers here to sort through the vast amount of donations of bedding, clothing for children, adult clothing, toiletries, nappies, anything and now because they have so much they needed as many people as possible just to sort through the bags and already they’ve taken two trucks have left to go to Poland so we’re all doing what we can to help in this terrible situation.”

SOT, Volunteer: “I live in Wandsworth so just locals, so I just came along because we’ve been collecting and they said so now we needed hands, they needed people to help.”

SOT, Volunteer: “I am originally from Ukraine, my mum is in Kyiv at the moment so I just can’t stay apart from all of this and I try to do something, try to spend time not just scrolling the news, you know, I believe that it will help.”
