Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for Russian President Vladimir Putin to sit down for negotiations, speaking to journalists in Kiev on Thursday.

“If you do not want to leave now, sit down with me at the negotiating table, I am available. Sit with me, not 30 metres away, like with Macron, Scholz and so on. I am a neighbour, you don’t have to hold me at 30 metres! I don’t bite”, - said Zelensky emotionally.

Earlier today the Ukrainian and Russian negotiators at the second round of talks in Belarus agreed to a temporary ceasefire to allow the evacuation of citizens and the delivery of aid where necessary.

Russia’s military offensive in Ukraine has drawn international condemnation with the EU, UK and US among countries and blocs to impose heavy sanctions on Moscow.

Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrainian President (Russian): “What guarantees? We are not attacking Russia and have no intention of attacking it. Guarantees of what? Are we in NATO? No. Do we have nuclear weapons? No. What am I supposed to say? Who am I supposed to give something to? Do you understand? It’s also the information bomb everyone’s talking about. What am I supposed to give? Lord, what do you want from us? Get off our land. If you do not want to leave now, sit down with me at the negotiating table, I am available. Sit with me, not 30 metres away, like with Macron, Scholz and so on, as they are welcomed. I am a neighbour, you don’t have to hold me at 30 metres! I don’t bite.
