US President Joe Biden urged Americans to get their booster vaccine shots to counter the spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant, from Washington DC on Monday.

On Sunday, US infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci told Biden the nation would need two more weeks to learn more about the Omicron variant’s transmissibility and severity more definitively, the White House said in a statement.

The event takes place, as the new Omicron coronavirus variant is continuing to spread across the world. First discovered in South Africa, the variant has now been detected in a number of countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
