Footage has emerged of the baby being rescued by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s SWAT unit in Phoenix, on Friday, following a police shootout.

Nine officers were injured earlier in the day, during what police have described as an “ambush.”

Officers were originally to a house where a baby had been placed outside the door. Five police officers were subsequently shot and four other officers were injured by flying bullets and shrapnel during the incident.

The baby was rescued unharmed, police have said. The perpetrator, who police suspect was the father of the baby, remained barricaded for several hours and was later found dead inside the house.

A woman, who police believe was the former girlfriend and mother of the baby, was also found injured in the house, before dying later on Friday afternoon.

The unharmed baby is now is state custody.
