Police were on the scene after nine police officers were injured following a shootout in Phoenix on Friday.

Officers were originally called to a house where a baby had been placed outside the door. Five police officers were subsequently shot and four other officers were injured by flying bullets and shrapnel during the incident.

The baby was rescued unharmed, police have said. The perpetrator, who police suspect was the father of the baby, remained barricaded for several hours and was later found dead inside the house.

A woman, who police believe was the former girlfriend and mother of the baby, was also found injured in the house, before dying later on Friday afternoon.
