New York City expanded its indoor COVID-19 vaccination mandate to cover children aged 5 to 11, as seen on Tuesday.
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the new measure amid a surge in infections among the youngsters in the city.
Kids from age 5 now need to show proof of at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine to take part in high-risk extracurricular activities, such as sports, and to join indoor activities, such as dining and going to movies and concerts.
Nearly 50 percent of young New Yorkers have had at least one jab of the COVID-19 vaccine.
