Violent Clashes As Protesters Try to Tear Down Chicago’s Christopher Columbus Statue

Over 1,000 protesters swarmed Chicago’s Grant Park, as activists attempted to tear down its bronze Christopher Columbus statue.

The rally, which was initially meant to demand the defunding of police, quickly turned violent as demonstrators clashed with law enforcement.

The statue remained standing after police pushed back protesters, however the Columbus monument was left defaced and covered with graffiti at the base.

Police said at least a dozen people were arrested and several officers were hospitalised.
