‘Wooden Castle Symbolising Coronavirus Set on FIRE in Russia’

A giant castle symbolising the coronavirus was burned at an end-of-winter festival in Russia.

Wooden effigies are traditionally burned for the holiday of Maslenitsa, which symbolises the beginning of spring.

The castle in Nikolo-Lenivets was made from wood and stood 24 metres tall before being set alight.

Artist Nikolai Polissky said he was inspired to create the structure as a symbol of the coronavirus.

The virus has claimed over 92,000 lives in Russia since the start of the pandemic.
