At least six people were killed and seven others injured in Aden, Sunday, after a car bomb targeted the local governor’s convoy, according to Yemen’s information minister.
Aden Governor Ahmed Lamlas survived the attack. Among those killed were the governor’s press secretary, his photographer, head of security detail and a fourth companion along with a civilian bystander, according to health officials.
Remnants of the car explosion could be seen as well as the damaged surroundings, including buildings, other vehicles nearby and electricity grids.
While there has been no official claim for the attack, the Southern Transition Council controlling the region blamed armed Islamist militants.

SOT, Mohamed Nasser, Local Resident (Arabic): “My name is Mohamed Nasser. When we left school, traffic was flowing on the street. Then we heard a sudden and powerful loud explosion. It shook houses and buildings.”

SOT, Local Resident (Arabic): “It was a bomb-strapped car that targeted Aden’s governor, Ahmed Lamlas’, which led to casualties from his posse and some civilians. It also led to damaged houses and cars of civilians. May God ease the situation, sufficient for us is Allah and he is the best disposer of affairs. Electricity was also hit, reaching all the way to the inner city. May God be with us.”
