An explosion during Friday prayers in the Spin Ghar area of Nangarhar province, in eastern Afghanistan, has killed at least three people and injured many others on Friday.

The blast took place inside the mosque near to where the Iman, who was leading the prayer, was standing.

One local said, “the condition of the injured was critical. We do not yet have any information on the casualties.”

The bomb appeared to have been placed inside a loudspeaker, and detonated when the speaker was switched on to start the prayer, according to local reports. The blast was said to have occurred around 13.30 local time (09:00 GMT).

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack however Taliban authorities have arrested three people in connection with the bombing.
