Austria: First images outside Chancellery after Kurz announces resignation

People could be seen gathering outside the Austrian Chancellery in Vienna on Saturday night, moments after Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced his resignation.

Pressure was mounting on Kurz to resign after prosecutors launched an investigation into corruption allegations, with raids conducted across a number of locations on Wednesday.

Kurz’s government coalition partners from the Green party expressed disapproval for the chancellor following the launch of the investigation and have invited the Austrian People’s Party to announce his replacement.
