German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on a ‘clear and decisive’ position of the member states of the European Union regarding the tensions between Ukraine and Russia, as he said in a press conference held with President of the European Council, Charles Michel in Brussels, Friday.

“We also talked about the issue of security. Of course, we are all very concerned about the many troops we see on the Ukrainian border. That is why it is important that Europe is clear and decisive on this issue and underlines once again that the borders in Europe should be inviolable and that everyone should abide by the appropriate rules for common security in Europe,” said Scholz.

Michel, in turn, said that the European Council is “working with all our member states in order to consolidate this trans-Atlantic alliance, which is so important, not only for our prosperity, but also for our security.”

Scholz visited Paris and Brussels on his first trip abroad since assuming power on Thursday after 16 years of the government of Angela Merkel.
