Georgian ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili sang the Ukrainian anthem during a court hearing in Tbilisi on Wednesday.
According to media reports, Saakashvili called all the charges against him unfounded and accused prosecutors and the court of corruption.
The politician also showed pictures of houses he alleged belonged to officials and members of the Georgian prosecutor’s office.
At the end of the speech, the lawyers gave Saakashvili a Ukrainian flag. Holding it in his hands, the former president sang the Ukrainian anthem.
Dozens of supporters of the politician gathered outside the courthouse with placards calling for Saakashvili’s release.
Saakashvili was detained on October 1 upon his return to Georgia. Earlier, the ex-president was put on the national wanted list in cases of membership in the club of the banker Sandro Girgvliani and the beating of deputy Valeria Gelashvili, according to the terms, he was sentenced in absentia to three and six years of freedom, respectively.
Saakashvili is also accused of seizing the state border and brutally dispersing the protesters.
In jail, the ex-president went on a hunger strike, calling himself a political prisoner. Supporters of Saakashvili continue to collect signatures under a petition addressed to the President of Georgia and the Georgian government’s claim to release the former leader of the state.
