Israel: Country battling ‘bad forces’ day and night - PM Bennett following Latakia strike

Prime Minister of Israel Naftali Bennett said that his country was fighting ‘bad forces’ in the region ‘day and night,’ in comments made during a media briefing at an Israel-Cyprus-Greece summit in Jerusalem on Tuesday.

“We won’t stop for one second, this happens almost daily. In the face of destructive forces we will continue to act, we will be persistent and we will not tire,” he said.

Bennett’s words come after Syrian state media accused Israeli warplanes of attacking its Latakia port, with several missiles striking the area of the containers at 1:23 local time on Tuesday (23:23 GMT Monday), starting a fire.

There has been no comment from the Israeli military thus far.

Also present at the trilateral summit in Jerusalem were President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis. They both touted joint Eastern Mediterranean gas projects as a way forward for the region during the transition towards a greener global economy.

And that is why I would also like to emphasise what President Anastasiades said, the importance of the East Med Gas Forum as a mechanism of cooperation, of better coordination amongst the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean and that is why it is important to focus on all infrastructure projects whether they involve gas or electricity, interconnections that will further create a more unified electricity and gas market amongst our countries.”
