Japan: "A moment of joy and relief - IOC chief Bach on upcoming Tokyo Games opening

IOC president Thomas Bach addressed the concerns surrounding the upcoming 2020 Olympic games as well as awarding Brisbane the 2032 games, in Tokyo on Wednesday,

Australian Minister of Sport Richard Colbeck stated, “we are hugely excited by the opportunity that has been presented to us by Brisbane ‘32 to host the games of the 35th Olympiad and Paralympic Games, they will make a huge difference to our country, and the timing coming on the eve of the Tokyo Olympiad.”

IOC president Thomas Bach also addressed the coming Olympic games expressing his hope for a joyous event that can possibly ease the tension leading up to the postponed 2020 games.

He stated, “I think it will be a moment of joy and relief when entering the stadium. A moment of joy in particular for the athletes because I know how much they are longing for this moment and that they can finally be there, they can enjoy this moment under very special circumstances, and a feeling of relief because no need to tell you the road toward this opening ceremony was not the easiest one.”

The 2020 Olympic games are set to begin in Tokyo on Friday.
