Lebanon: Protesters rally for Ethiopia outside UN building against US influence

Ethiopian demonstrators gathered in front of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia Headquarters in central Beirut on Sunday, to protest against US interference in Ethiopia’s internal affairs.
The demonstrators gathered and waved flags outside of the building. One central concern of the attendees was what they considered to be American interference in the internal affairs of Ethiopia. One protester commented: “America intervened and ignited the war between us. We want to stop the war and stand by our country.”
Ethiopia is currently in the midst of a civil war between the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and Ethiopian government forces.
The Biden administration has attracted criticism from the Ethiopian government for not treating the TPLF as a terrorist group as well as for removing Ethiopia from the African Growth and Opportunity Act trade agreement.

SOT, Protester, (Arabic): “We are here for our country and to make a revolution because there are problems in our country between each other and America intervened and ignited the war between us. We want to stop the war and stand by our country.”

SOT, Protester, (Arabic): “America wants to occupy our country, and we do not want that. That is why we are here, Ethiopia, for us only, and because we do not want problems between each other.”
