The Afghan Security Forces, as well as allied militiamen, were seen present in Herat, getting ready to repel the Taliban attacks, Monday.

One of the locals said that some people flee the area due to the advance of the Taliban while others remain in the area and assist the security forces. Shots were heard in the background with militiamen seen patrolling the streets.

Following 20 years of military intervention, the impending withdrawal of US and NATO forces has been met by a renewed offensive by the Taliban, who have captured several key border crossings and swathes of the country. The Biden administration has confirmed that all US military forces will have left the country by August 31.

SOT, Ghulam Reza, Resident of Herat (Dari): “All the people are worried and fleeing, local people are also fighting against those who want to attack here, they are Taliban who are attacking, just I saw two Taliban (fighters) with their cars there.”
