Hundreds of Central American migrants replenished their strength on Thursday in the town of Santo Domingo de Zanatepec, Oaxaca, as they continue to make their way north in a caravan to the Mexican border with the United States.
The caravan members are seen walking along the road as they carry their belongings to the centre of Santo Domingo de Zanatepec, where they replenish their energy, do some minor work to earn money and heal the wounds they have sustained on the long walk.
“Right now we’re tired, we’re tired, we’re tired, our legs are fucked up, like mine. My legs are fucked up, but thanks to God I’m working hard and here we are,” said Luis Ordonez, a Honduran migrant.
Mario Antonio Aviles, a Salvadoran migrant, said that the group’s objective is “to meet up with another caravan that has left to join this one. This is practically the mother of all the caravans that have been here in the past.”
Among the members of the caravan, mostly from Central American countries and Haiti, there are also children, elderly, pregnant women, people with disabilities and members of the LGTBQ+ community, who have suffered threats in their countries of origin.
