Passengers arriving from Kiev at the international arrivals of the Gatwick Airport in London reacted on Saturday to the calls of the British government to leave Ukraine amid risks of an allegedly imminent military invasion by Russia.

“A lot of people were students waiting for the red alert, and it happened yesterday. Once that happened, everybody booked their tickets and left as soon as possible,” said Ali Haider, a medicine student. “[I]n the last couple of days [the Ukrainian authorities] have been saying, okay, something is likely to be happening, especially because of Putin’s statement,” he added.

The British government has called all its citizens to leave Ukraine within 48 hours, as its intelligence services said there could be an imminent invasion by Russia before next week. As Russia and the United States continue their bilateral talks along, citizens of several European nations and US citizens are called to immediately leave Ukraine due to security reasons.
