The patient who is the first confirmed positive case of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus was transferred to the Gregorio Maranon Hospital in Madrid, seen on Monday.

Dozens of reporters cold be seen outside the hospital waiting for more information.

According to local reports, the infected patient is a 51-year-old man who was traveling on a flight that landed in Madrid from South Africa, and his final destination was Amsterdam.

Spain has banned flights to or from South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
